(5 things I like about living in Mexico)
1. Cuernavaca is pretty small, so I can walk to most places.
(Before I came here, Mom and I talked about how I should buy a bike to get around... but no one really rides a bike here. First of all, Cuerenavaca is one big hill, but also... I think you would probably get run over by a car if you did choose to attempt it. This isn´t Boulder... Pedestrains and Bikers DO NOT have the right of way. There are´t any traffic lights and only a few stop signs. Sometimes poliece officers stand on the street and blow whistles and try to direct traffic, but no laws are ever really enforced! It´s pretty much every man for himself. I´m very glad I can walk, and don´t need to drive here!)
2. The one time of day I do get in the car is when Rosa drives us to school in the morning. (Again, Mom... don´t worry, it´s safe. Even with the disorganization, traffic seems to flow smoothly and safely. Plus, the way the streets are, no one can drive over 20 miles per hour anyway.) I love this part of my day. During our 15 minute drive, Rosa plays Barry Manalow and we all sing along together. (Rosa loves Barry). ´Mandy´is our favorite song to sing.
3. You can´t do your own laundry in Cuernavaca. You have to take it to the laundrymat, where they wash it and fold it for you for 50 pesos (about $5). Now this luxery is something I could get used to...
4. Every morning when I wake up, breakfast is out on the table waiting for me. (Rosa takes really good care of us). Today we ate papaya and pancakes. Rosa is a wonderful cook and I already have many fantastic recipies to bring home. I also love the fact that in Mexico you eat 4 meals a day instead of three... desayuño in the morning, almouerza at 12:00, comida at 3:00 (the biggest meal of the day) and then another meal (I forget what it´s called) at 8:30 (more like a snack). I am well fed here in Cuernavaca.
5. I don´t need to set an alarm to get up in the morning because the roosters wake me up. These roosters aren´t like the ones in Hawaii that crowed all night long... these roosters actually wait until the sun starts coming up (around 6:30), and then they stop. Gotta love natures alarmclock!
Well, it´s Friday... I just took my first Spanish test and now I´m free for the weekend! (Aside from all the homework that Carmen - my professora - assigned us. It just stopped raining and the sun is shining. Hopefully it will stay that way all weekend! We´re going to Mexico City tommorow to check out some of the museums.
¡Buen fin de semana! (Have a good weekend!)
(p.s. I still can´t figure out how to spell check this blog in english... so now you know my secret... I´m a horrible speller. Thanks for baring with me!)
¡Adios!
