My first four days in Mexico have been very busy and I am happy to say i am enjoying myself so far!
I arrived in Mexico City on Sunday afternoon. I realized right away that I know a lot less Spanish than I thought and found it almost impossible to communicate with any of the locals. Jose (a man from the University International, which is where I am attending school in Cuernavaca) picked me up from the airport and drove me to my house in Cuerenvaca. Jose didnt speak English, but we tried the best we could to understand one another.
He dropped me off at the home I will be staying at for the next two months and I met Rosa, my ´mama de Mexico´. She has three other students staying with her as well (two younger girls, Jenny and Nicole from Utah...they are both education majors and are here with an ESL Program... and Alex, a women from Switzerland who speaks 4 languages!). Everyone is really great... we all have meals together and speak a lot of SPANGLISH. (Rosa and Alex are fluent, but the rest of us are doing what we can... but its tough!)
School is great... I have classes from 8am to 2pm everyday (SIDENOTE- the keyboards for the computers in Mexico are different than back home, & Im having a hard time figuring out how to get an apostrephe, semi colon, etc. Also, I dont know how to use spell check, so please bear with me!) Anyway... I have 6 hours of class each day... its a lot of information... and about 2 hours of homework a night. Needless to say, Im learning a lot!
This town is wonderful. I havent done too much exploring, but yeaterday afternoon I went to the zocolo (the town square) and the mercado (market) with Jenny and Nicole. We had dinner at Los Arbols and I had the best tostadas ever! I have a confession to make... I have been eating a lot of meat already... but I cant help it... they put pork in everything! (Poor piggies). But, Im here to experience the culture and I want to experience it all! (So if someone back home wants to turn vegitarian for the summer, then that would even things out, right? Any takers...?)
I hope all is well back in the states. Please keep me posted!

Hola Erin,
I love the blog already! I can't believe you ate meat. Its like the Friends episode, when Phoebe is prego and wants meat. So she starts eating it and Joey becomes a vegaterian for her. Too funny. Be safe and have fun.
Adios,
Megan
